Zine containing short story Anguish of the Fifty-Foot Woman, as written and performed by Abigail Jacqueline Jones, plus some brief passages and collages providing some background on the piece and its various inspirations.. This piece was originally performed in August 2021 at a solo exhibition of the same name, hosted by the ArtWorks Project Space, London.
All risograph prints are designed, printed and finished by Abigail Jacqueline Jones using her very own RZ 370 EP Riso duplicator, which was donated to her by a local independent East London bookshop — Libreria — in January 2023.

Anguish of the Fifty-Foot Woman is inspired by the real-life experiences of extremely tall women from the end of the Second World War to the present day, and by the contradictory, often simultaneous framing of the fictitional, superhuman giantess as all-powerful destroyer of worlds, and mere erotic puppet whose every action is determined by those men who fetishise her. Appearing, at first, to be set during the early years of the Cold War, amongst isolated American military research and testing facilities littering the Sierra Nevada, ‘Anguish’ opens with Nancy, a young scientist almost as prodigiously intelligent as she is tall, driving through the barren desert landscape on her way to her laboratory. Furiously, frustratedly monologuing about how she was widely perceived as an inhuman monster for being almost seven feet tall as a woman - via a series of anecdotes based on accounts shared by real women standing 6’6” and above - Nancy proceeds to discuss her long-standing desire to combat the work of the National Organisation of Medics Against Amazonian Masterhood, or NO-MA’AM: a fictitious pharmaceutical organisation, inspired by the common 20th century medical practice of stunting tall girls’ growth using oestrogen supplements, whose primary objective was to destroy the self-esteem of tall adolescent girls through insidious advertising campaigns, and sell them a ‘cure’ for their abnormal size in the form of a “Growth-Stunting Serum.” Through her genius, as one of America’s most talented young experimental biochemists, for years she has secretly been working on a secret formula that could potentially turn the Battle of the Sexes on its head, could make the gendered stereotypes and patriarchal social norms which provided NO-MA’AM their market opening impossible to enforce - or could instead transform her into a sky-scraping goddess with the power to make the world bend solely to her will. Which option will she choose? And, more to the point, is the choice even hers to make?
