Drawing its name from various street atlases produced during the early nineteenth century, specifically marketed towards visitors to the city, ‘The Strangers’ Guide to London’ is a fully navigable street plan of Central London, from Spitalfields in the east to South Kensington in the west, from King’s Cross railway station in the north to Elephant & Castle in the south. Created by a cartography-obsessed lifelong Londoner, meticulously hand-drawing ‘The Strangers’ Guide’ was the artist’s principal method of passing the time during the UK’s third Coronavirus lockdown, in the hope it would provide an outlet for her to share her astute passions for mapmaking, for her hometown, for its history, geography and social fabric, with various friends from which the pandemic had separated her, and with the wider world beyond.
