about the press
The Fifty-Foot Press is an independent risograph studio and DIY micropress based in East London, founded by artist and creative researcher Abigail Jacqueline Jones. Having learnt her craft on an old, long disused Riso duplicator she discovered in the basement of an independent bookshop just off Brick Lane at the beginning of 2022, which she subsequently restored to working order, at the tail end of the year Abigail was lucky enough to be donated the machine by the bookshop’s management as they no longer had anywhere to house it. By that point, she had been so comprehensively bitten by the riso bug that she was desperate to start a fully-fledged print studio and press of her own — which she subsequently did.
Currently based out of the family house in which Abigail grew up, The Fifty-Foot Press operates an open-access risograph studio through which artists, writers and printmakers of all kinds — whether experienced or novice, professional or hobbyist — can print their own work, providing equipment, time and space and experienced assistance at an affordable rate. Alongside this, The Fifty-Foot Press publishes zines and produces graphic artworks that are sold through its online shop, as well as at zine fairs and art markets across the UK.
Ever keen to foster new partnerships with other writers, researchers, printmakers, poets and performers, Abigail and the Press are actively seeking to forge new connections, collaborations and long-term creative relationships; feel free to drop us an email, no matter how speculative, if this might interest you in any way.

Have you made a super cool piece of art you’ve been desperate to turn into a print for ages? Are you a keen hobbyist, out to try your hand at a creative technique you’ve never had a go at before? Or maybe you’ve had an idea for a zine, one that’s absolutely rammed full of insanely important ideas, thoughts, philosophical concepts, or swelteringly hot takes on politics or pop culture everyone and their mother needs to hear right this bloody instant, but what you haven’t got is a way to mass-produce it for distribution to the masses. Whatever it might be that’s provoking your burning itch to do some Riso-ing of your own, you’re in luck as here at the Fifty-Foot Press, we strongly believe in sharing our time, skills and printing equipment with absolutely anyone who wants to give it a crack, whether they’re an experienced professional artist or printmaker, or whether they’re a total novice out to have a bit of fun and try something new.
